Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the mental flexibility to do what works for the individual depending on the situation. It recognizes that negative thoughts and emotions are part of life. Rather than continually avoiding unpleasant thoughts and feelings related to parts of our life we cannot control, it seeks to focus on moving toward what is most meaningful and valuable in one’s life. One element of the therapy is mindfulness, which helps clients notice the present moment rather than reliving the past and worrying about the future.
